About Alex
Alexander Rowland was born on 3rd of August 1999. Since a very early age, Alex enjoyed impersonating famous people like ‘Oliver Hardy’, ‘John Cleese’ and ‘Steve Martin’.
When Alex was only four years old, he won many fancy dress competitions as ‘Oliver Hardy’. These include the ‘Southend-On-Sea Carnival Fancy Dress’, ‘Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Fancy Dress’ and at a talent competition at his School.
In 2004 his parents purchased a 21 DVD Box Set of ‘Laurel & Hardy’. In the animated menu we see Stan and Ollie doing their famous dance routine from ‘Way Out West’. Alex decided to learn the dance himself, perfected it and included it in his stage act. (please see our video page for a live recording of Alex’s act).
Adding the dance routine really paid off for Alex. In 2006 Alex won a ‘Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter’ child act competition. The wining prize was a three tickets ’all inclusive’ four nights fun stay in ‘Europa Park’ in Germany, including flights accommodation and breakfast.
After seeing an article on Alex in the local paper. Roger Robinson from the ‘Saps at Sea’ (a Laurel and Hardy appreciation society) approached Alex inviting him to perform at their next meeting. Since then Alex has performed with them on many occasions and is now a very happy full member.
